This course is designed for total beginners or those who have not done any sewing for years and would like to get back into it. Over a 5 lessons all learners will refresh their existing skills as well as learn new techniques and have a lot of practice with professional advice and help at hand. First we learn the basics, starting from how to use sewing machine, what are the different presser feet are for and practice doing different kind of stitches. Then all students will complete up to three projects. You will be able to choose from these:
To make a simple cushion cover with a zip.
To make a simple small bag.
To create a cushion with decorative details such as piping, appliqué, draping or frills.
To make a bigger bag with some more complicated design. (There are a few options to choose from)
To try patchwork, quilting and freehand embroidery.
You also will be welcome to pursue your own ideas, if you like.
These projects will be demonstrated on a step by step basis so you can work at your own pace. This course is a good foundation to provide students with the key skills and techniques to go into more complex sewing, dressmaking and tailoring projects.
Length: 15 hours over 5 lessons. Cost of materials are not included.
